Create an alias to a top-level Samba folder

Hah! I've been trying to figure out how to do this for some time. Thanks for the hint.
One issue I have though.... say you put that shortcut on your desktop (We'll call it "P_DRIVE_ALIAS"). When you double click on P_DRIVE_ALIAS it goes ahead and mounts the samba share and voila you get P_DRIVE on your desktop as well....clutter.....

Anybody know how to make the finder not add another icon when you open a network drive alias?

In the Finder, go to Preferences (NOT System Preferences), and click on the General tab. Uncheck the box for "Connected servers". That should do what you want.
