I probably should have added detail on how to get the Aqua interface going. It's in the prefs
section, near the bottom of the panel. You'll have to quit and restart for it to take effect.

Also, to get color coding on the php syntax, I had to change the global default to php, and
then hit the "Reload editing environment" button.

Now that that's all done, though, it's pretty cool! A couple of menu-drawing bugs, but nothing
that makes it unusable.

You shouldn't need to set the global default to PHP -- jEdit is recognizes files
based on filename extension -- files that end with .php, .php3 and .inc are opened in
PHP mode.

It seems there was some sort of quirk in my general OS X preferences. Nothing was
sticking properly. Two days later, it's all working fine again, and I haven't changed a thing.

jedit is an amazingly good editor -- it's replaced Alpha as my standard text editor.
