YES this is a hint. It is one thing to "know" that shortcuts can be added, and quite another to be presented with an example that has resonance in one's personal situation.

If you have multiple accounts, why not just assign F5 to the check all function??

Hayne's comment, which appeared while I was writing mine, suggest a reason to not attach F5 to the check all... ????? The idea of a one key check-all appeals, but at what realistic cost?

I mentioned that. The menu item name is "Get All New Mail". Some people only have one account, so I explained both (because the menu item names are different).
