Copy portions of text clippings
Authored by: davidm on Jul 21, '06 08:34:01AM

I've never known about text clippings before now, and am trying to figure out how to create them in the first place. What apps does it work in? I just figured it out in Mail.app (but it's hard - I have to click on the very edge of the selection highlight), but it doesn't seem to work in Safari. Any hints?

I have found that dragging text clippings does not work in some Safari window frames. It works in the main body of a web page just not from some types of frames. I have no technical reason why this should be. It's just a personal observation.

It should work in pretty much any app, and you don't have to drag the edge of the highlight. The trick is you highlight text, then you click and hold on the highlight for a second or so before dragging. That way the text will get dragged instead of re-highlighting a new range.
