If anyone reading this knows a way to change the way of selecting items in the finder (or in an application with a standard list), please please PLEASE, post it here.

If you are willing to use the mouse as well, I suggest clicking on the file you want to deselect while pressing the "shift" key. The other items will remain selected, eg your files 4 to 6.
