10.4: Watch DivX movies in Front Row

From my experience, the divx movie has to be saved as a .mov file for Front Row to be able to play it and you have any requisite codecs installed in your Quicktime folder in /library.

The .mov is simply the container that Front Row recognises and is able to play from. You can similarly play 3ivx/Xvid etc files this way. To convert an .avi to .mov you need Quicktime Pro and use the save as and select self contained movie.

There are probably other ways to get .avi files to .mov files without reencoding but not sure.
