10.4: Create an Intel-bootable HFS+/NTFS external drive
Question, why convert to NTFS? Can't you just use FAT32 which makes it easier to access and change from a Mac, but still use it for a PC?

If you have files that are larger than 4GB, then you cannot use FAT32.

Turns out you can boot 10.4 from a USB 2.0 drive as well as a FW drive from a Intel Mac. I used the 'Restore' function in Disk Utility to image a bootable volume onto an external partition. I don't think it's possible to install Windows to an external drive via installer CD (at least not a USB drive) because the installer insists on using a partition on the internal drive.
