New hint rating system in place

I think ratings are unnecessary. If a hint sounds good to me, I'll read it no matter what the rating; it doesn't cost me anything. What am I supposed to do with the information that a hint has an average rating of 2? Surely not ignore it? Every hint is useful to somebody. Anyway, I'll still have to read the comments to discover what's wrong with it.

And in my experience, hints are very specific. If searches came up with large numbers of similar hints, I could see the point of filtering them by ratings. But usually, only one hint will do the trick.

I agree - this seems like feature bloat to me...

Personally, I'd much rather see some better features for searching. Now it seems to be either way too many results or none.

Make sure you use multiple keywords, which can help greatly. But I agree, and we know, that searching isn't as good as it should be. Unfortunately, that's a much harder change, but we're aware of it and are taking steps to make it better in the future.

The advantage of having rated hints is that it will allow us to float up "useful hints" (as decided by hints readers) in various places. So instead of just showing the five most recent, we can show the five top-rated Laptop hints, for example.

I agree that it would work better without reloading the page -- something to ask the developer for!
