10.4: WMA conversion with QuickTime Pro and Flip4Mac

It seems Flip4Mac has done some kind of evil deal with Microsoft to provide the free components: free Flip4Mac WMV components download page.

Just tested this out on a WMV music video I downloaded ages ago. I'm using OS 10.4, QT Pro 7.1, PBG4 1.67GHz.

However, if you try to export the movie directly, you'll get "Error -2126", which is Quicktimish for "Not allowed to save this format" (see this Flip4Mac forum thread). However, you can copy and paste it to a new movie project:

  1. Open WMV project in Quicktime
  2. Select All, Copy
  3. File -> New Player...
  4. Paste
  5. File -> Export...

And use the format of your choice.

I don't suppose ther's an existing Applescript to do this? Wishful thinking on my part-- my AS is on the rusty side.

cheers
