How to clean the Mighty Mouse's scroll ball
Thanks for the idea of running the knife around the edge, I used a thin piece of paper and ran it around and inside the edge of the ball while holding the mouse upside down. With lots of patients It seemed to dislodge some of the dirt stuck which was preventing the scroll down. Some lint came out from the ball area.

This worked for me! I cut a thin paper rectangle, and folded it making it a thinner rectangle (to strengthen the paper a little), and then wedged it under the lip. After wiping the paper around the inside of the hole, I could see hand-grease on the end of the paper. It still didn't scroll, so I kept repeating this (cutting off the tip of the paper rectangle each time to make sure clean bits were going in. Finally, I did this all while holding the mouse upside down, and now I can scroll again, for the first time in over 6 months!

This worked for me too! I'm on my second MM and am reluctent to send for another replacement. Have tried all the regular methods too - rubbing upside down etc etc. Trying with the paper folded into a triangle worked - all this fluff came out - after about 15 mins!!! Highly recomended method, if the normal upside down rubbing doesn't work. Apple should put this method on their website too, they might get less returns. Thanks for this method, great ;-) |
