how to run X11 (in darwin/osx) without quartz wm?
Authored by: zahadum on Jun 07, '06 09:38:30PM

somewhat off-topic (because X11 doesnt come up very often ;-)

(1) sometime the finder or login window has difficulty loading probably, so its time to run some diagnostics (but without having to boot off another volume) --

so it would be great to be able to lauch X11 from the CLI/console -- either in straight darwin or under os/x ....

but apple's implementation of X11 relies explictly on the quartz-based aqua WM ...

so how does one configure xfree86 to run in darwin/osx without over-writing all of apple's X11 files?

(2) also: how does one remotely invoke X11 to run an X-based process on a machine in the background? (where the user account is NOT the same one as is currently active)

thanx: dlf
