I'm not getting this problem at all in my FileVault enabled home directory.

Opening a Finder window and typing a search string in the Spotlight field returns the results I expect (even with "Computer" chosen).

However, I did recently switch my whole home folder to FileVault and even re-indexed its contents.

In case my Spotlight starts to exhibit the same behavior you described, I'm glad you shared your workaround so that I don't freak out if this happens to me ^_^.

Glad you are not seeing this @ your desk. I got confirmation from Apple today through their bugreporter that this is an issue they are aware of and are investigating, so I guess this will indeed be fixed in the near future.
