Use Windows XP from Virtual PC with Boot Camp
Authored by: wm on May 31, '06 02:01:31PM

I'm pretty sure the Windows XP CDs included with VPC 7 already had SP2, so if you bought XP with VPC 7 this shouldn't be an issue.

On a related note, can anyone tell me what I would have to do in terms of activation or whatever to uninstall XP from VPC and install it on an Intel Mac for use with Boot Camp (or maybe Parallels)? I'm guessing I'd have to call up MS; would they hassle me at all for trying to do this with a copy of XP that was sold for use with VPC?

regarding VPC7 and SP2: I needed to do the SP2 upgrade (just download a 250MB or so executable and run a command, as given in the recipe).

I tried once without doing the SP2 upgrade first, and got stuck with the installer asking to insert the "SP2 disk in drive A" (this was with Parallel).

No problem to apply the SP2 upgrade (I just wasted burning a CD-R that now will make another nice coaster).

regarding the question of activation, I did that (over the internet) and so far got no problem.

Cheers, LatB
