10.4: Use serial Wacom tablets in Mac OS X
Authored by: bkpr on May 22, '06 02:30:36PM

I've just been handed a giant serial wacom tablet, so this hint comes at the perfect time. However, I have a dual 2Ghz G5, what's the best way to connect the serial interface to my Mac?

Good question. I have the same Mac, and no serial port, of course. I have a WACOM tablet that's, oh, probably 9 or 10 years old, and worked just fine. Given WACOM's quality, I'd expect it to work today if I had a computer with a serial port and some drivers for the tablet. It's still in a box in the basement.

Authored by: sbinner on May 22, '06 03:32:40PM

hi.
the last Mac to come w/ serial ports was the Yikes beige G3.
to get serial adapter look up google or these links:

http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/adapter/ for $79 USD
or
http://www.intel.com/support/peripherals/xc/portgear/converters/din8/sb/cs-017196.htm ( for a large selection)
or
http://www.welovemacs.com/serpordev.html (for a great selection!!!)

i do not work for any of these sites or receive any benefits...

good luck...

oh and...
http://www.usbgear.com/CG-119e.html (although for windows it would be nice, esp. @ $29.99 USD)

I recommend the Keyspan USA28X dual-port serial adapter. This interface has been found highly reliable by users of TabletMagic.
