Firewall problems

I'm unable to get this to work. I get an unknown connection error. What I tried is new connection.

http://idsik.mac.com/username

username password

my proxy settings were for our webproxy on port 80 (same as browser settings)

Any ideas?

This should work. If it doesn't check the following.

1. Is the URL correct? idisk.mac.com/your username/ (not idsik, I assume that's just a typo.)
2. Is your username correct?
3. Is your password correct?
4. Is your proxy address correct?
5. Is your port number correct?

To check the last two look at your system preferences, networks, proxies. Make sure that it is showing the settings for the method you use to connect to your network, for example ethernet rather than modem. If there is more than one proxy and port setting experiment with entering other proxies and ports into the Goliath dialog. If your IT people are approachable, check the settings with them.

6. There are settings for proxy authentication in Goliath's advanced connection settings. I don't really understand this, but might you need authentication to access from your network?
7. Try different ways of doing it. As some other posts have suggested you can enter the proxy server details in preferences and connect through open iDisk connection in the file menu.

The proceeding points may be completely obvious to you and there may be some other reason why this doesn't work for some firewalls. If so please forgive me for trying to teach granny how to suck eggs. If you find out what the problem is please let me know!

I finally discovered the logging function of Goliath. The problem appears to be with the proxy server. I've tried varios configurations, for all except using our web proxy Goliath just spins arrows in a circle. The one setting I get a response (the error) this appears in the log:

HTTP/1.0 500 Server Error

Proxy-agent: iPlanet-Web-Proxy-Server/3.6

Date: Tue, 30 Apr 2002 17:34:28 GMT

Content-type: text/html

Content-length: 302

<HTML><HEAD><TITLE>Server Error</TITLE></HEAD>
<BODY><H1>Server Error</H1>
The proxy has encountered an internal error which prevents it from
fulfilling your request. The most likely cause is a misconfiguration.
Please ask the administrator to look for messages in the proxy's error log.
</BODY></HTML>

Could it be the proxy only allows HTTP requests and is blocking WebDAV by protocol (vs. blocking by port # only?)
