Delete Firefox bookmark backups to save space
Authored by: notmicro on Apr 26, '06 11:06:32PM

I've been aware of this bizarre behavior for some time. I'm a super-heavy Firefox user, my 'bookmarks.html' item is now running 2.8 MB, there are currently over 200 of these numbered backup-items, and the folder is running over 500 MB. Time to clean it out again...

OS X itself is jammed with many GB of stuff which most people will never ever touch, and experienced users may wish to dump. For example, if you never use "GarageBand", you can hunt down its massive support-files and delete them. Another huge space-waster are the Keynote and Pages apps, which you can delete if you're never going to use them (note that you must pay full price for them online to activate these apps!) Another fun one is iDVD; if you're never going to author your own DVDs, you can dump the "Themes" which are currently running almost 2 GB. Last but not least is Audio / Apple Loops / Apple / iLife Sound Effects which is at 1.4 GB.

Yes its true that we're wading around in lots of disc-space these days, but when we do our periodic full-backups -- which you're faithfully doing, aren't you? -- why not pare down their size and execution-time.
