i've got so much stuff on my 9.1 desktop, it's a pain to have to keep opening the folder for it to get to it. I'm really not sure why apple changed this. i can understand the desire to enforce the idea that this is a multi-user environ, but at least the option of putting the 9.1 desktop on the X desktop [on a per-user basis, decided by admin] would be nice.

this may be desireable to you but I think apple had the multi-user environment most in mind. By aliasing everyone's X desktop to the generic OS9 desktop then you lose the user independence of the machine. Not to mention the priviledge nightmare when different users write different files to the same desktop...

When you save to the desktop from Classic apps, they do save to the Mac OS X desktop, so the need for this hack is somewhat diminished.
