Avoid a kernel panic with the D-Link DWL122 adapter

My girlfriend bought the dongle more than an year ago for her Pismo and the drivers available from the official DLink site were hell to comply with (she found the solution exposed by this hint to unplug the dongle for example).
After a week or so she phoned the italian DLink support to expose her problems and ask for clarifications. They asked her if she wanted to be a betatester and sent her right away beta drivers that worked a lot better - still not perfect though. After a while she updated to a new Powerbook, so she gave away her dongle and I can't say about drivers nowadays.
If you have problems, try to contact your nearest DLink support center and express your dissatisfaction: apparently they were lacking betatesters. I guess airport is much more common among mac users.
