Use Mail rules to make .Mac mail more POP-like
There seem to be a lot of misconceptions about IMAP, a protocol that is clearly superior to POP. I find this mostly with people who are used to having all their mail downloaded to their (single) computer. What they don't realize is that with IMAP you get all that POP offers and more. Agreed, the protocol itself does not by default, remove mail from the server, but this is actually a very welcome feature. Because with IMAP, the user is in control of whether you want your mail stored on the server or on your computer.
To do the latter, simply create a local mail folder and move mails from the inbox in here. These mails will then be removed from the server and will be residing only on your computer. You can also have a mail rule or a script do this for you.

My problem of IMAP is, when I received a scrapped email because of unexpected internet disconnection, there is no way to recover. If I use POP and leave mail on server, I have more freedom to recover. |
