The Apple Remote's buttons are processed by a process called "rcd" which then simply runs AppleScripts to control a set of hardcoded applications. That is, QT Player, iPhoto, etc. does not support the Apple Remote. It's the other way around -- the "rcd" process supports QT Player, iPhoto, etc.

Can one take from this the implication that the Remote could be given expanded (or at least different) functionality??

The implication from this is unfortunately that it seems only Apple can add support for new applications.

I think we can expect to see some Cool Stuff happening with the Apple Remote soon. This page suggests a fair amount of progress has been made in figuring out how to programmatically interface with the remote.
Once some enterprising developers out there have put together a tried & tested framework to allow apps to use the remote, we should see some utilities which will allow us to attach appliescripts to buttons (amongst other interesting uses!)

I tried to run a powerpoint presentation, but nothing happens. is there a way to implement this or did I just not do the right thing. I run Office 2004. |
