Modify the partition map to recover a damaged iPod
Authored by: jgrimes on Feb 27, '06 10:35:09AM

Helpful hint for me. I never thought about checking the partition map when my ipod died (maybe that was dumb of me). I reintialized the drive and it failed (unamed HD errors) when checking for bad blocks. I thought it was a HD drive failure as it clearly kept spinning up and down when i turned it on (I guess I expected worse case). I didn't need to go through all this as I just had a bad partition map. I used apple Disk Utility to redo the partition map and then I redid it again using Ipod restore (and then it looked like the example partition map). So thanks for the hint as it I was just about to spend some serious cash on a replacement.
