Entering a WEP hex key for preferred AirPort network

I've always been using the dollar sign "$" for that purpose...

It's documented in this Apple article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106424

Hmm.... I don't understand why this fixes things. Not doubting it works - but why would it?

I've encountered this problem in the past, and always had to reboot the wireless network to make stuff work right.

This works because Apple offers 3 ways to enter a WEP key - regular text, which it converts to hex, ASCII and hex. To a computer, 0x or $ before a series of letters & numbers designates it as hex (hexadecimal, or base 16). This is a standard method of designating hex which has been in use for decades.
