Use MacDrive on Windows to read a 'dead' HFS disk

Thanks for the recommendation. Unfortunately, in my circumstance it didn't work. And now, also unfortunately, I have a idea of what data recovery costs as well.

I actually underquoted. I've got a USB/Firewire drive that a failing machine screwed up to the point where it won't mount. Tried all the usual stuff as mentioned in the original post so I phoned them for an estimate. They said between $1,400 and $2,400. Needless to say I decided that data was not that important to me. I'm sure other companies may charge less but I never checked.
