Service Scrubber - Take back the Services menu

I don't expect great detail, but some detail would be nice! :P

Without going off site (or following sub-links), I have no idea what this Service Scrubber is all about (nor what "out-of-control" system services means for that matter), which kind of defies the point of offering it as a hint altogether. This one is really just an advertisement, whereas other POTW's always offer a spiel, either briefly summarized or highly detailed, on WHY they're being featured, and WHAT they actually do.

I'd have to say this is probably the first MacOSXHints "hint" with which I've had to follow sub-links just to find out what the hint is actually about which, sadly, belies the simplicity of what MacOSHints usually affords us readers. Following off-site (or even in-site) links should be an option, not a requirement.

It's kind of like one of those crazy 6 o'clock news teasers: "there could be something in your house killing you right now, more on that later".

(PPS: For those of you preparing to bash me on being too lazy to click the links; you've totally missed my point... as superfluous as it was!)

Or to one heartfelt, honest gripe about something that he/she is absolutely right about. And some egos were gonna be hurt.

My ego's just fine, thanks.

I appreciate the feedback. I thought I had offered enough of a description, making the assumption that readers knew what their Services menu was, and what it meant when it was out of control. Obviously, I was wrong.

I'll include more detail when posting 'teaser picks' here in the future, but I hardly think it's fair to call this "just an advertisement." The article I wrote for Mac Gems is quite long and very detailed. In the interest of saving my fingers some wear and tear, I pointed to that review as the primary source of info for the pick. That does *not* change the fact that I love this app, and it's quite worthy of Pick of the Week status.

With that said, you'll see a more detailed summary (oxymoron?) on future Mac Gems referrals.

Actually, I was thinking *exactly* the same thing... I haven't even followed those links, yet.

That's funny, just from reading the title I knew exactly what robg was talking about and didn't even have to read the description.

Have you looked at your service menu? I have a very few selections on it that I use on a regular basis and tailoring which options show up is just great! For users of Word Service, this program is a must.
