Put the Services Back in the Contextual Menu
Authored by: wheeles on Jan 31, '06 02:19:32PM

In NextStep and OpenStep you could access the Services from the Contextual Menu. In OS X you can't. I've no idea why they were removed from there (the archaic obsession with single button mice, perhaps?).

It would be cool if ServiceScrubber could include some mechanism to provide access to the Services via the Contextual Menu for all of us that use mice or trackballs with more than one button. Services are contextual by their very nature, so it seems counter-intuitive to have them in the menu bar and not in the Contextual Menu.

Put the Services Back in the Contextual Menu

Amen. There are services I'd use quite regularly if they were in a context menu--open URL, search with Google, that sort of thing. But by sticking them into a sub-sub-menu, there's just no point. It's much easer to just do whatever it is directly without messing with the service.

Cheers,

bY

ICeCoffEE is an option to hook services inside the contextual menu.

Thanks for the recommendation. Shame it requires Application Enhancer. There is no way I am putting that on my machine.

Agreed, that (and context menu) would be 2 sweet little additions to an excellent and focused app.

Thanks Peter Maurer!

Check out the free HotService from Devon Technologies - it moves your Services menu to the top level (next to the Help menu). http://www.devon-technologies.com/products/freeware/services.php. (It only works in Cocoa applications, however.)
