10.4: keyboard navigation | mac UI needs a NIB inspector tool

the general problem with undocumented keyboard commands is that apple has let the mac UI guidlines become incoherent in os/x.

there should be a general service (or at least some special pref tool) that displays (and assigns) the keyboard command for any interface control element in each application (KeyCaps is just one possible 'view' for how menus & windows can be mapped).

the general principle for object design about service discovery should always include introspection: every object should be able to easily disclose its state (this equally applies to telemetry, but that is a different subject).

believe it or not, vista is going to be a challenge to os/x - whether apple likes it or not.

it is so sad that apple has let one its key franchises languish for so long (and the chances for anything truly new/useful for a nexgen interface contols - like hyperbolic trees - is almost certainly a lost cause).
