10.4: A USB Printing tip for Intel-based Macs
Authored by: piper on Jan 24, '06 03:36:21PM

I submitted this question on another web site: "Will printers work out of the box on the Intel macs?" My question was rejected. Since then, however, I have setup quite a few HP printers on an IP network and one USB printer - all on an Intel iMac - without having to tweak a THING. Printers included:

HP Photosmart 8400 - bonjour
HP Deskjet 5850 - bonjour
HP Deskjet 5650 - bonjour
HP Laserjet 1300 - USB
Maybe one or two others, as well. I hope that's useful to someone.

I envy you. My Intel iMac connected to my brand new and about-to-be-returned LJ1320n via ethernet will not print (other than the Demo Page and HP JetDirect Configuration Page). The error message I get is "The process "hppostprocessing" stopped unexpectedly with status 13". I tried many combinations of bonjour vs. IP printing, generic driver vs. HP 1320 series driver, changing Printer Setup Utility to open with Rosetta, and still I get status 13. I am frustrated and not looking forward to shipping the unit back! Any suggestions?
