Save disk space when using iTunes and FileVault

Are you sure it is rewritten after every single song? I thought it was rewritten at quit (and maybe at stop, that is, not pause). Writing tens of MB:s takes some time, especially on laptop drives.

Save disk space when using iTunes and FileVault

Quite sure.

1. Try watching the iTunes folder as iTunes transitions from one song to another.

Looks like iTunes first creates a temporary iTunes Library file, then deletes the original and renames the temp file. After that the XML file is rewritten.

2. After I'd really loaded my library up I had huge issues with disappearing space, and tracked it down to iTunes. Since moving the iTunes folder out of the FileVault area it's been sweet.

3. If you expect other apps to read the XML data from iTunes, it can't wait until quit or stop. If you want to be safe from crashes you don't want to wait either ;-)
