10.4: Add Motorola V710 Bluetooth support to iSync

Ok. Getting pretty desparate to answer my own questions but i did find out some things and since this is a fairly central page for Motorola v710 and Macintosh issues, high up on Google, thot i would post what i learned here, and nobody else bothered to explain, for other ignored souls.

The transflash memory card appears to work for the purpose of moving sound and picture files to and from Mac OS. I was able to get a 128 meg card (sku: 10375564 description: Sandisk 128MB Transflash Memory Card) and a USB reader (sku: 202078932 description: IOGear GFR201TF - USB 2.0 Pocket Memory Card Reader/Writer for Micro Secure Digital Cards) from Buy.com for $11 with free shipping after a $25 bonus for applying for their stupid visa card.

You do have to know something about file structure because the v710 lays down a somewhat elaborate file tree. And files moved from my Mac to the memory card do not appear on the v710's menu, but tho i havent had time to play with it i expect there is a work around (like figuring out the catalog file, or renaming the file to replace a sound or picture file already in the catalog). It would be great if someone wrote a Mac OSX file manager for the v710 memory card but it it aint me babe.

I should note that i have read elsewhere that if you do the BitPim hack it will disable the v710 memory card management software.

On another subject, i am surprised at how difficult it is to find a comprehensive explanation of something like linking a v710 with a Mac. Discussions on iSync, data cables, Bluetooth, seem hacks... are scattered all over the web, and what i just explained was probably obvious to many, but it took hours to learn. It says a lot about how inept (Motorola) or deceptive (Verizon) the companies are that they dont facilitate their users. Or maybe its just my own ineptness with google, but at least i am not deceptive... intentionally.

I'll second that… Verizon's policies—and its policies in collusion with Motorola—have made the whole mobile phone experience for users like me who have shelled out over $400 for their phone painful and difficult.

Having to stand in line for (literally) hours at the Verizon store, and getting upgrades that disable equipment I paid extra money for make both companies guilty of fraud in my book.
