Purge custom patterns to improve Photoshop load time

Purging Custom patterns is a good idea, but by far the worst speedbump on the way to efficient load times with Photoshop is having a bargeload of fonts active. And if you have corrupted fonts, you may have trouble loading Photoshop in the first place.

If you have hundreds or thousands of fonts, like many of us do, and you're loading more than 50 fonts into Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign or whichever applications you may be using, you really ought to look into a professional-grade font utility. Many of us on the Adobe Photoshop Forums swear by FontAgentPro. There are others, of course, but F.A.P. seems to be the font management utility of choice.

Part of managing your fonts with a professional-grade utility will require that you take the Ox's FontBook out of the loop. Instructions for wrangling fonts can be found at the following links:

The X–Font Debacle — Solved (a little old, but still valid)
Using and Managing Fonts in OS X (Apple)
Advanced Typography With Mac OS X (Apple PDF)

Hope you find this helpful.

Cheers!
