Secrets of the Preview icon in Get Info windows

Agreed.

And it is certainly true that its ability to work like a "real" icon has changed in Tiger. I used to try and use it that way in 10.3, but was always frustrated when it didn't work like I thought it should. I sort of just came to the realization a month or so ago that it had been doing the "right" thing for a while!

Even though I published this hint, I am not sure what use or purpose it serves. Any ideas.

Secrets of the Preview icon in Get Info windows

Easy way to move files on the fly :) It's what I've been using it for most of the time.

Besides moving files from a folder, you can also Get Info a folder and drag files to that icon. (For me it's better than opening a new Finder window, because you still have the original Finder window open with its history, and you don't have to navigate to the location of the folder again as you would have to in a new Finder window).

Works nicely for everything except movie files. If I recall correctly, you can copy but not move them, and the resulting file will be called "Movie Clip 1" so you have to rename -- not worth the hassle.
