10.4: Print directly from the Finder
I know that some of you weren't born in 1984 when this feature first appeared, but GEEZ, guys. Seriously, it was in System 1.0 which ran on an 8 MHz clock, in 128 KB of RAM, a 400 KB floppy, and no hard disk. I wrote a lot of FORTRAN and Pascal programs on that system--both had very nice GUI IDEs with source-level debuggers. And it was freakin' uphill both ways.
10.4: Print directly from the Finder
I agree, this feature has been around forever. Well forever for me means back to System 6 when I started on a Mac. :)
10.4: Print directly from the Finder
I think the "hint" part of this is that the Finder has [re]sprouted the Print menu.
It sounds like it's not the same as dropping documents on a desktop printer though, as that will print a document if the type is known (pdf,ps,text, jpg, etc) without opening an application. Using the menu seems to invoke the appropriate application. I've not tried but you can probably print stuff from commandline with lpr. All thanks to CUPS, I suspect. |
