Recover from an iPod stuck in 'eternal Apple' mode

If you have a Windoze formated iPod you CAN NOT use the Windows Format utility to recover your iPod. It could damage the HDD beyond recovery which will require replacement. However you can use the Apple Disk Utility to reformat the Windoze iPod and then connect to the PC to restore using the iPod software update. Don't ask me why a Windoze machine will do this to an iPod, but I have recovered hundreds of PC and Mac iPods using Disk Utility and the Mac can usually bring them back to life. The good news is that if it can't be recovered, the iPod warranty covers this issue, but you will save yourself a trip to an Apple store or hours long phone call to apple if you can fix it yourself.
