Recover from an iPod stuck in 'eternal Apple' mode
I had a similar problem recently (3rd gen 15GB ipod), for me, erasing it completely using Disk Utility solved the problem, so I think that zeroing all data is just a coincidence and not a rule to solve the problem.

I doubt it was a coincidence: I had already erased the drive without zeroing it. In fact, I did it a couple of times.

Similar problem here. My 3G 30gig iPod passes every test when in disk mode. I have run everything, ie disk utility, pdisk, drive genius, disk warrior, etc. - no problems. I also erased and zeroed out all data and free space. The installed loads the operating system but when it reboots for the second time it gets stuck at the Apple logo. It does fail the HDD SCAN with 0X00000059 WR FAIL message immediately. It started doing this a few months ago and if I warmed the drive up by writing a large amount of data it would pass the HDD SCAN and then boot. Maybe sector 0 is bad?? Any ideas? |
