Simply Quitting the process from the Activity viewer in most cases, WILL NOT HELP, the widget will still run or re-launch, you need to close the widget first from dashboard. Widgets are stored in 2 locations user library or the root library. Preferences file is users/username/library/preferences.

Hope that helps. I think Apple should implement a safegaurd against this problem! Ugh. !!
