turning off ethernet also works
If you are not using the ethernet port at all, you can set the system to ignore it. Under the network control panel Show menu, select "Active Network Ports", then turn off ethernet. The system never tries to configure ethernet at startup, so you don't have to wait for it to time out on a non-existent DHCP server.
turning off ethernet also works
Yep turning off ethernet also works, However folks might need their ethernet port for their printer and if that is the case you need to have that port active. My setup is a Cube with an old LaserWriter NTR, it is a great printer that I did not want to get rid of it so I bought an ethernet to appletalk adapter and it worked. However that is when I noticed OSX taking longer to boot. Presumably because the ethernet port was active but there was nothing connected to it. As a result it went looking for an IP address and it would time out before continuing to boot up. By manually giving the machine an IP number it no longer does this. This trick is useful to a small number of users but, if you are in this situation it does help. |
