This hint reminded me of a program I came across years ago and even though it is only semi-related, I thought I would post about it on the off chance that someone might find it interesting. It's called ASCIIMoviePlayerSample and it's free from Apple (you can get it here) and what it does is convert QuickTime movies to ASCII on the fly so you can view them in the Terminal. I realize that sounds a little odd but the effect is very cool. Check it out if you've got a few spare minutes.

Definately very cool - note the last comment in the code:
