Use a black image to instantly blank an Apple LCD
Authored by: PanicRoom on Oct 13, '05 11:16:17AM
The guys at nexus9.org used to have a purpose-built freeware app for this called LightsOut. Command+9 would toggle the screen between black and revealed: simple, effective and instantaneous. The other advantage with LightsOut is that it allows you to cycle through and quit/hide apps via the keyboard shortcuts while the screen is blacked out (which is the real value of the app) — this is something the screen saver method doesn't allow.

Unfortunately, the site is gone and I can't find an existing download mirror. I have a copy of the application (which weighs in at 32KB) and would be happy to pass it on if the interest is there.
