Hi. Thanks for this. I have a similar problem with a Gen 1 iPod, but can't figure out how to create the disk image of a drive that's not connecting. Can you be more specific as to how you accomplished this? Thanks! Paul Austin

absolutely - if you can see the Drive in Disk Utility, but the actual volume named "Foo's iPod" or something similar is greyed out, then create an image of the drive by selecting it and clicking the New.. button to make an image of the device. If this is successful, follow the above steps.
