Regarding password reset using an install disk:

2. Physical access trumps other security mechanisms.How very true, even an open firmware password can be easily reset with a little monking with the RAM and clearning the nvram. And there's always the good 'ol method of just putting the hard drive in another computer and grabbing all you need that way. About the only measure I know of that stays true to security even with physical access is file vault. Correct me if I'm wrong, but afaik the user password is the only way to decrypt it, or will transferring it to another computer and setting a master password allow access to it? --- |
