How to completely uninstall Symantec products
Totally agree here. Norton AV is worthless crap that's always the source of headaches. All Symantec products are.
How to completely uninstall Symantec products
While I completely agree that Norton products should be kept off your Macs (these days), I recently had a need for NAV when a friend contracted a Word virus (from a Windows user, natch). Unfortunately, ClamXav, as truly wonderful as it is, only detects viruses; it does not repair them as NAV does. Fortunately I have an old, OS9 version of NAV, and an OS9-bootable Mac I could run it on. But does anyone know of a good anti-virus program for OSX that will REPAIR infected files?

I tried Virex as an alternative, but it too has system extensions, automated schedulers, and tons of other CPU hogging components that are part of the required install, like NAV 10. I'm back to NAV 10 for now, but will watch this thread closely. How excited was I to find that NAV 10, like NAV 9, forces it's menu item on every new user created?!?! I love apps that hog the CPU and force their presence on your desktop/menu bar/system preference pane! |
