You don't need to minimize the export window. You just need to have an actual movie as the frontmost window. (Or the info window, but only if you first made a movie frontmost and then clicked on or opened the info window.) And, at least for me, minimizing the export window doesn't always work. Basically, I just try to remember not to close the window of the file I'm exporting.

If you are bothered by this, you should definitely submit a bug report to Apple. They might close it as a duplicate, but I would hope that more people complaining would get them to fix it sooner.
