Use Airport Express as ethernet to wireless bridge

1. Launch Airport Admin Utility on your Powerbook. Start configuring the Express. (Connect it by a cable if you don't see it.)

2. Go to WDS tab and Enable this station as WDS remote base station. Select the current network.

3. In Airport tab, Change Wireless Security... to the same settings as your current wireless provider. THIS MIGHT NOT WORK WITH WPA. If your WEP password is hexadecimal, start it with a dollar sign.

4. I assume there's DHCP on your current wireless. Therefore you don't need to Distribute IP addresses in Network tab.

5. Give the Express an IP address or just choose DHCP in Internet tab.

I actually figured this out by accident. I've read before that bridging with Express is not supported. Then I was using a cable to setup the express as WDS/Airtunes with my Linksys wireless router. But then to my surprise i noticed i got another IP from router's DHCP - through the cable!

"WPA is generally not supported over bridged connections on WiFi products due to the fact that WPA encrypts the MAC addresses which WDS relies on for communication." I see, from arstechnica.com.

Hi, happy holidays to you all... I am trying to connect my imac g5 with dsl connection to an Airport Express in a ethernet bridge format with my old g4 imac at the other end. I want to use the ethernet to share the internet connection. I have tried the afore mentioned configuration, but have had no joy so far... Is what I am doing possible?

many thanx

Use Airport Express as ethernet to wireless bridge

Can this be done using an Express as the base station, Aexpress to Aexpress instead of Aextreem to Aexpress?
Can a airport express be setup as the main base station connected to a cable modem and another express be setup as a wireless bridge inplace of an airport card in my old i mac?
