10.4: A workaround for a Spotlight / Norton AV issue
Well, call me on pointing out the obvious, but the POINT OF running NAV on a Mac is that some of us exist in real-world multiplatform environments. I'm setting up an office wide file server on an older g4 running os-x for my 5 windows users and 7 mac users in a small office. We all will be using it to store backups of our personal files and to share documents (word, excel, pdf, etc...). It just makes sense that I'd want to scan the files on the server; while the PCs all have symantic anti-virus always running, none of the individual macs do. But we all get attachments from folks and I can't risk someone on a mac receiving a document that has a virus and copying it to our shared folder on the server where someone with a PC might pick it up, or have the mac users just send things back out via email that are infected without them being personally affected. In any case, I've scanned some of the macs with NAV before and it DOES pick up older or windows-only viruses that you wouldn't even guess would be there.

I would hope that your Mac users know the difference between a jpeg and a pc virus, but I do understand your reasoning. |
