T-Mobile/V330/10.4.2 :: it works
Authored by: rdewald on Aug 03, '05 09:46:02PM

I have an iBook G4, Tiger 10.4.2, a Motorola v330, and a T-Mobile account. I have been using GPRS over BlueTooth for an Internet connection, and iSync-ing contacts/calendar entries, for about a month now.

After playing "stump the T-Mobile rep" for about an hour, getting bumped up and down the support ladder and between various departments, I finally learned that at T-Mobile one must have the "CSD-option" (Carrier-Switched Data) enabled on the account ($9.99/month) in order to be able to send/receive faxes.

Once provisioned, however, you get a phone number both for incoming faxes (different from your voice number), and for incoming data connections (over the CSD pipe), and this can be active concurrently with your GPRS pipe.

It works outgoing, I've tested it. I have not testing the incoming side yet, that's not really important for my particular application (I am a home care nurse who regularly needs to fax information from patient homes). If I test the incoming side, I'll reply to this thread with my results.

iMac G4, bluetooth dongle, Motorola v330 phone, T-Mobile.

Regarding t-mobile - the CSD option was discontinued Oct 22, 2005. Two reps claimed that if your cellular phone actually contains a fax modem, and you are able to connect to it (either with Bluetooth or an optional data cable) then you should be able to fax successfully.

That has NOT been the case for me. However, I have been using the GPRS internet connection successfully over Bluetooth for almost a month now, and may consider using one of the email to fax services, if I can't get the bluetooth faxmodem to work.
