Check system fonts to resolve strange system issues
Authored by: pub3abn on Jul 28, '05 06:39:53PM

The same problems can occur when you have DUPLICATE fonts installed. For example, I moved virtually all the fonts from /Library/Fonts into my ~/Library/Fonts folder. That was because I install and uninstall fonts all the time, and wanted to work with one folder, not two. That itself caused no problems. But when I later reinstalled the OS, it put fonts back in the root Library, resulting in duplicates, resulting in applications that would not open (including Activity Monitor, Font Book, Safari). Deleting the duplicates, and rebooting, fixed the problem immediately.
