A fix for the iPod Updater problem
I realise this is late, but here's an update in case it helps anyone else...
I had this problem after upgrading from 10.2 to 10.4: the iPod updater refuse to see any iPodm and iTunes refused to copy artwork to my new iPod Photo, treating it just like my old non-Photo one. Apple's advice for 10.4 is to do an archive installation, but I've customised my system a bit and didn't want to. Here's how I fixed it. I did a fresh installation of 10.4 onto a spare drive, and then copied three bundles from that onto my main 10.4 installation. The bundles in question are: /System/Library/Extensions/iPodDriver.kext, /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/iPod.framework, and /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/iPodSync.framework. You have to preserve the permissions, user and group of all the contents, which means doing it as root. (I did it from the command line, using 'sudo', 'rm -r', 'cp -p', 'chown' and 'chgrp'.) After that both the iPod Updater and iTunes recognised my new iPod Photo for what it was, and all is well! --- |
