10.3: Connecting a Mac and a PC via IP over FireWire
Authored by: jordan314 on Jul 24, '05 10:00:15PM

I've been trying this all day with no luck...I'm trying desperately to back up my PC to my new G5. I'm running tiger on the G5, and even installed XP on the PC with no luck (I was running 2000 before, but installed XP hoping the IP over firewire would didn't). I have FTP and windows file sharing installed on both machines.
I've followed these instructions literally but still can't get either machine to even ping the other. I've tried to install firenet on both machines, but it looks like the last version of firenet for mac was for jaguar (maybe panther), but it doesn't work with tiger. On the PC it tells me to install its own native driver when windows asks when I plug it in, but windows says both of firenet's drivers are invalid.
When you "right click on LAN" you're talking about the 1394 connection in network connections, right? I've tried static IPs, DHCP, enabling internet file sharing, everything, but the machines will not talk to each other. I've heard that with the right permissions you can get firewire target disk mode to work but I have not. Macdisk also did not work. Anyones' help is appreicated.
