Call your carrier. Watch out for your bill!

Make no mistake: your wireless provider knows what kind of calls you make on your mobile phone, whether it's voice, data, or even fax. With Sprint, my plan charges me 45 cents per minute for "incidental" usage when I make a fax or modem call. With T-Mobile, I was flatly informed that I would not be able to send faxes with my phone because they simply did not offer the service.

So if you're having trouble, make sure your plan supports it. If you're not having trouble, make sure you're not being billed out the ass.

T-Mobile claims they do offer the fax service.

I just spent about an hour being transferred between different departments at T-Mobile, I finally found someone who knew that it is necessary to have the "CSD Option" enabled on the account to use a BlueTooth modem as a fax device. The service is $9.99/month, you get a phone number (different from your voice number) for *receiving* faxes and you can also get a phone number to receive data calls, should you desire such a thing (I didn't).

The provisioning takes 2-48 hours (GPRS provisioning took the full 48 about a month ago). I have a Motorola V330, I've been using the BlueTooth modem for a GPRS data connection for about a month with no problems, I'll report back what happens with the CSD fax service.
