Possibly recover a missing RAID stripe? orr mirror?
Authored by: kevinv on Jul 20, '05 08:55:12AM

RAID 0 is a stripe.
RAID 1 is a mirror.

These days when most people say RAID they actually mean RAID 5. Which is a stripe with 1 stripe used to store parity information.

RAID 0 provides no fault tolerance -- actually your chances of losing everything are double with one drive because losing either drive causes the loss of all information.

No RAID level substitutes for a good backup. RAID 1 and above provide fault tolerance but you can still lose data. I've seen several servers lose 2 drives in a RAID 5.
